This months Alternate Archives is about something we probably all wish we were better at: Communication. Artists are only human, after all, so this episode will bring a wide musical selection covering the best and worst of communication - going from singer-songwriter to classic dance tracks and taking some weird detours along the way.
Come Into Knowledge: Herbie Hancock music lecture
Come Into Knowledge - Lecture #7: Herbie Hancock Slowly but surely, May 25th is approaching, and that means our next installment of “Come Into Knowledge” is comin’ up and for this time we’ll put the spotlight squarely on one of the greatest of all time, -genre boxes be damned-, and for that reason decades-long ahead of the curve: the legendary-in-our-lifetime Mr. Watermelon Man himself, Herbie Hancock. Music, in general, would be a lot less fun, hadn’t he been around: from his days on Blue Note Records in the ’60s to simultaneously being a sideman in Miles’ 2nd great quintet that same period to his Afro-futuristic approach under the name Mwandishi to fully embracing Funk, and later Disco, and later Hip Hop and… you name it, he’s probably done it. Like last month, when we had ‘Prince-a-holic’ Dave Coenen providing us the knowledge, we now invite ‘Herbie Head’ Baraka G. for the proceedings, giving us insight into the Maestro’s thought process and how he -seemingly effortless- adapted all those different musical styles to make it fully his own, creating great album after great album after great album. Chameleon indeed. ******* • Come Into Knowledge #7: Herbie Hancock • Wednesday 25th of May, 19h-22.30h • FEED Amsterdam * Free Entrance Artwork by Marco van Bijsteren
